Not on the menu...Yet!

I haven't stopped cooking up stories or aphorisms and such; it's just that I haven't added them to the menu...either here or at my companion chef's site: JimboHenderson.com. As any good southerner would say, I'll get back with you directly.

In the meantime, I hope everyone is eating well and laughing when they can.... jh

This is how we cook it back home in....

My British Mom regularly blamed her unusual food combinations and approaches to cooking on "The way we do it back home." Lately, I'm hearing it regarding methods of food prep used in the Philippines.

Calling someone a liar is frowned upon in these parts, where we're considered backwards, but we still have civilized manners. But I'm not buying it now, and I don't think my mom believed she ever had me convinced either. I think it's a form of "Uh" or "Um" space filler for when your brain isn't working quite fast enough to fill the awkward pause.

The other evening for supper we decided to have breakfast--served up "Filipino-style." I was game. The egg shells were white, but the eggs scrambled up a darker brown. Bacon was skipped for bun-sized smoked sausage links. Instead of white bread-toasted-I ate some fancy wheat "flat bread." She piled hers on rice.

As I tentatively dug in,  I caught her eyeing me to catch my reaction. I was Busted! My face couldn't hide it--I quit playing Poker very young. "This is how we cook it..." came forth.

I don't think she believed I bought it, but it didn't matter. It was sooooooooo tasty. Whatever you call it.

Sometimes it turns out good

My attempt at spaghetti turned out so good tonight that ate it all. Hopefully, going to sleep tonight--and waking up tomorrow will also turn out well....

As a matter of fact, I was feeling so chef cocky that I decided to try my hand at pasole. I looked up the recipe afterward--and mine didn't match up exactly--but it turned out pretty passable.....

Fry it up, Southern Style

More than a 'nana samich,  jh

My latest taste experiment had me doing some pretty dangerous face contortions. Being the brave and riskyman that I am...I put it in my mouth anyway....

Butter up a couple of slices of bread--BONUS--it doesn't even have to be twist-tie-always-used fresh.
Heat up your cook top somewhere in the mid-range temps. Toss your bread in the skillet and add a banana sliced in half and lengthways.

Heat it all up a couple of minutes. Lift the bread and nanas out and gob the bread in some peanut butter--make mine Peter Pan, honey crunch, thank you. Put the sammich together and smash it. Plunk it back in the pan to heat up the PB.

If you have any kind of taste, you'll love it.

Side Dishes--a la carte (for my fancier visitors)

I want you here to smile, but sometimes the menu gets too big. People need a little side dish once in awhile....Look over the menu, and I'll get back with ya directly. Smile on!....

Daredevil's Special

Many of you squeamish people out there have sneered at some of my culinary concoctions. Not everyone is born with taste!

HOLD your bellies, I tried a new one today.

Anyone who has kept up with my food adventures knows just how much I enjoy a pineapple and Duke's Mayo sandwich on FRESH white bread. Well, I had my standard one today, Then, I took it up a notch!

Now, stay with me....I globbed heaps of  Peter Pan, crunchy, honey-flavored  peanut butter on one side of the bread.

Before you wince, think on this.... I LOVE to eat! I'm not the bravest soul in the world--bungee jumping, has never been even a remote desire--but I ate it. I devoured it. I valiantly fought making a third sandwich, but wisdom and my phobic reaction to sit-ups kicked in pleading with me to stop....

Now, it's your turn!

Give me a holler if you need further prep instructions....OR, just pop on by the Bluejay Cafe and I'll custom mash one together for you. *
